Man Utd transfer news: Zlatan Ibrahimovic ready to take pay cut on short-term deal

ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC is happy to take a pay cut to return to Manchester United – who never wanted him to leave in the first place.
Manchester United are set to re-sign Ibrahimovic on a short-term deal despite fears over his fitness.

The 35-year-old plundered 28 goals across all competitions after signing on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.

However, the Red Devils opted to release him after he was sidelined until the New Year.

Despite that decision, United look likely to give him a deal that will see him compete with new No9 Romelu Lukaku for a starting berth.

And the Daily Star claim Zlatan Ibrahimovic is happy to take a pay cut – to around £125,000 a week – to ensure he returns to Old Trafford.
It emerged earlier this year that the former Sweden international pocketed a weekly wage of £367,000 a week last term.

But United’s new contract offer is set to be worth substantially less.

Ibrahimovic also has an offer on the table from MLS giants LA Galaxy but his priority is to play under Jose Mourinho once again.

The Daily Star add that United never wanted him to leave in the first place.

But, ultimately, they could not take the risk of paying him while injured.
Speaking after United thumped Swansea 4-0 at the weekend, former Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew backed the club’s imminent decision to bring Ibrahimovic in again.
“Romelu Lukaku is the man,” Pardew wrote in his Daily Mail column.

“He looks like Manchester United’s No 1 striker, he plays like Manchester United’s No 1 striker. But he needs Zlatan Ibrahimovic to teach him a few old tricks.

“If United announce that Zlatan has signed on again later this week, it should be a relief for Lukaku.

“They could play together, but also it could take the weight off his shoulders. He will tire in what could be a long campaign and Zlatan can show him how he can lead the line.”
