EC impasse: Council of State must intervene – CDD

The Center for Democratic Development (CDD) has called on the Council of State to immediately intervene in the impasse at the Electoral Commission (EC).
“The Electoral Commission (EC) is the bedrock of democracy,” the Center’s Programs Officer Paul Aborampa said in an interview with Starr News’ Ibrahim Alhassan and that if care is not taken the chaos there will throw governance in the country overboard.
The country’s electoral management body has dominated headlines lately following a petition demanding for the removal of its chairperson Charlotte Osei for various alleged breaches.
The petition, which the presidency acknowledged receipt of further alleged that Mrs. Osei among other things expended over GHS4 million on her residence.

But, in a blistering rebuttal to the allegations totaling 27, Mrs. Osei took her three deputies to the cleaners accusing them of gross insubordination, corruption and arrogance.
This was after she labelled the allegations as frivolous and the product of an “overactive evil imagination” in an earlier tirade.
Mr. Aborampa, however, believes that a full-scale investigation into the allegations must be conducted.
“For the legal aspect we should still do the investigation because if indeed all the allegations that have been levelled are true then it means we are not safe us a democratic country,” he stated.
“But until that investigation commences…the Council of State, the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Committee of parliament and imminent committees like the one we set up for the Dagbon crisis to also come in,” he added.
