I didn’t even know that Perez song; I only heard it after he was announced as the ‘Song Writer of the Year’ – Fameye reveals

Accolades and recognition in the music industry can be a source of validation and pride for artists and their fans.

However, not all moments on the stage are met with celebratory cheers, as singer Fameye recently revealed in the aftermath of the just-ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

The “Praise” hitmaker expressed his disappointment at not clinching the ‘Songwriter of the Year’ title, an accolade he believed he deserved.

In an interview with Andy Dosty, Fameye didn’t shy away from sharing his feelings about the outcome.

He acknowledged that while awards can sometimes be viewed as “bragging rights,” the disappointment lies in the fact that fans invest emotionally and hope for their favorite artists to take home the accolades.

“Sometimes your fans get disappointed because they want to get the bragging right and be sitting somewhere and boast about you,” Fameye stated candidly.

The ‘Songwriter of the Year’ category saw Fameye competing with notable talents, including Black Sherif, Diana Hamilton, Ewura Abena, Piesie Esther, and Perez Muzik. Ultimately, it was Perez Muzik who emerged as the winner, leaving Fameye and others to face the reality of not securing the title they had hoped for.

Fameye revealed his expectations, saying, “Honestly, I knew that if I don’t win, maybe Piesie Esther will take it.” Despite the anticipation, the award found its recipient in Perez Muzik.

Interestingly, Fameye confessed that he had not even heard the song that earned Perez Muzik the ‘Songwriter of the Year’ honor until after the winner was announced. He acknowledged that upon listening to the winning song, he recognized its merit and understood why it resonated with the audience.

“I didn’t even know that Perez song. I only heard it after he was announced as the winner of the category. But I think he deserved it because it sounded nice when they played it in the auditorium,” Fameye admitted.
