E-levy: Police stops Mornah-led demo, picketing

The Ghana Police Service has secured an injunction against a plan by a group called Justice 4 Ghana to demonstrate and picket parliament today, Wednesday, 8 December 2021.

The group will hit the streets of Accra to protest against the e-levy proposed in the 2022 budget.

Its members also plan to picket parliament until their demands are met.

The police has assured them of protection during the demonstration but the picketing will not be allowed, as a high court has granted an injunction on the march.

The police argued that the injunction on the picketing was necessary to safeguard the security and public health of the legislators, the general public and the demonstrators themselves.

The group is led by former People’s National Convention (PNC) Chairman Bernard Mornah.
