N/R: Youth in Afforestation recruits storm Forestry C’ssion over delayed allawa

Beneficiaries of the Youth in Afforestation program in Tamale have besieged the offices of the forestry commission there to demand immediate payment of their delayed allowances.

Numbering over 300, the aggrieved beneficiaries are demanding from the regional director of the Commission why their allowances are still not being paid.

The protest was sparked by information that their counterparts in Accra and Kumasi have been paid their allowances.

“We have been working for the past four months and we have not received our allowances and for that matter, there is the need for us to come and ask them questions to give us answers,” the leader of the aggrieved unpaid beneficiaries of the government’s youth in afforestation programme in Tamale, Ibrahim Zakaria said.

“Workers of forestry commission will not take it easy or kindly with the government if they should work for even a month without a pay. They should know that we are equally human beings and we have families that depend on us,” he added.

He said they are reliably informed that their colleagues in Kumasi in the Ashanti region and the Greater Accra region have received their July allowances “and I know we are all doing the same work, so we see no reason why they should single them out and pay them because they are not better than us.”
