Arsenal news: Gunners perk interest in Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario

ARSENAL are reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario.

The Serie A outfit have apparently placed Mario on the transfer list and he would be available for a fee in the region of £26million.

The news comes just 18 months after he moved from Sporting Lisbon in a £40m transfer – and he could be set to depart in January.

Mario has been restricted to just three starts at the San Siro this season as he finds himself behind Borja Valero and Matias Vecino in the pecking order.

And Arsenal could have cash to burn if they sell two of their star assets in Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in the winter window.

According to Italian publication TuttoMercatoWeb, he could arrive at the Emirates Stadium as soon as the window reopens.

However, Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly interested in the midfielder.

The Ligue 1 champions are currently searching for cover for defensive midfielder Thiago Motta.

“For me, he is a deep-lying midfielder,” Portuguese legend Nuno Gomes told Calciomercato recently.

“Technically he is very good and, watching him play, I can see that he is a great player with good tactical understanding of the game.

“He is struggling at the moment because the system does not suit him. If PSG want him, it surely means he has quality.”

Arsenal are next in action against Cologne in the Europa League this evening (6pm).
