Ghana’s Cyclist team dumped from Youth Games

Ghana’s three-member cyclists’ team has been dropped from the country’s contingent for this year’s Commonwealth Youth Games in Nassau, Bahamas, which begins July 19.
Originally, 12 athletes and 11 officials were expected to represent Ghana at the event but cyclists Solomon Tagoe, Gabriel Tettey and an administrator, Dennis Kweku Moore, have been left behind.
This mishap, according to the Ghana Olympic Committe (GOC), was due to the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ (MOYS) consistent refusal to release money for the competition.

Only four members of the team, (judoka Emmanuel Kemavor, 400 metre runner Rafiatu Nuhu, tennis player Emmanuel Plange and an official, Theo Edzie) managed to fly out to the competition last Saturday night after an alleged heated confrontation between the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah and the Chief Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS), Frank Quist.
The GOC has blamed the problem on the MOYS, particularly, Quist.
However, the MOYS while regretting the unfortunate incident, insists it was only doing its due diligence job.
