Akufo-Addo begins second phase of ECOWAS working visits

President Nana Akufo-Addo has left Ghana on Monday to begin the second phase of his official working visits to some countries of the ECOWAS region.

This phase will see President Akufo-Addo visit three countries in the sub-region including Senegal, Guinea and Cape Verde.

Already, he has paid working visits to Burkina Faso, Togo and the Ivory Coast in the first phase of his working visit after winning the December 7 presidential election.

The President will begin his visit to Senegal from Monday to Wednesday before proceeding to Guinea which has a lot of history with Ghana’s first President Dr Kwame Nkrumah from Wednesday to Friday.

President Akufo-Addo will then spend the weekend visiting Cape Verde from Friday to Sunday after which he will return to Ghana.




The visits will afford him the opportunity to introduce himself, as the new Ghanaian leader formally to the governments and peoples of these neighbouring countries.

He is expected to explore and deepen Ghana’s bilateral relations with these countries and to reiterate the country’s full commitment to the ECOWAS project.

The President is accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway and officials of the Presidency and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In his absence, the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, shall in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution, act as President.
