Audio: From a shoe shine boy to multi-millionaire; the story of Dr. Kofi Amoah

Presently the Chief Executive Officer of Progeny Ventures, Dr. Kofi Amoah rarely makes mention of his background which also saw him work as a shoe shine boy at Kejetia, in the Ashanti Regional capital of Kumasi.

He confronted what seemed an impossible mission, and introduced Western Union Money Transfer to Ghana and Africa generally.

His company, Progeny Ventures’ proposal to facilitate bringing Western Union to Africa was initially rejected due to the bad press about the continent and its association with AIDS and ethnic conflicts.

However, for months he pursued the president of the company until it was approved. This was the beginning of money transfers in Africa, which also made Progeny Ventures become the bridge between Africa and the US.

In a conversation with Kojo Yankson on ‘The Movers’ series on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM, Dr. Amoah provided the much-needed keys for today’s young and potential entrepreneurs who desire success in future – passion and honesty. Profit, he indicated, “is a thank you to society”.

To him, becoming wealthy was not his motivation although his love for niceties cannot be overlooked. “For me the engine was ambition”.
