It doesn’t make sense – Pianim fumes over gov’t borrowing for future generations to pay

Renowned economist Kwame Pianim is not happy about the penchant of successive governments to borrow for future generations to pay.

“It doesn’t make sense!” he blurted out as he bemoaned how the current leadership is burdening unborn generations with debt.

Mr Pianim expressed these sentiments on the Leadership Lecture Series hosted by 3Business on Wednesday, August 9.

The Series was themed: ‘Ghana’s Claim of Economic Self-Governance and Independence: A Myth, Reality or the Need for Paradigm Shift’.

Mr Pianim was concerned the problems confronting Ghana are not being solved from bottom-up but rather “we are solving from the air”.

He believes the sure way of developing the country is to have leaders who can “micro-monitor” the people just like great products like the late Kofi Annan did.

For him, until that is done, Ghana’s problems will linger on for long.

“Where we are now is difficult, we have never been there before, we need to sit up now and, we are not on the road yet. We haven’t turned the corner.”
