Bawumia promises NPP supporters ‘1 Constituency, 10 Appointments’

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has promised New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters that appointments under his government will benefit all, especially those at the constituency levels.

He said each of the 275 constituencies, likely to be 276, he hinted, after 2024, will get at least 10 appointees in his government.

Dr Bawumia promised this on Tuesday, August 1 when he visited the Awutu Senya East Constituency as part of his tour of the Central Region.

He noted there are grievances among the grassroots when appointments are made.

He, therefore, indicated that with a President clothed with the powers to make not less than 7,000 appointments, he believes 2,760 going to the constituencies will not be out of place.

“If we do that, polling station executives, coordinators, Council of Elders, patrons and the MP will collaborate and come up with 10 solid people for appointment by the President,” he said.

He clarified that the appointments will be substantive ones like Ambassadors, Deputy Ambassadors, CEOs, Deputy CEOs, board of directors, heads of agencies and the like.

“When we do that, all the constituencies will be empowered and the pressure will reduce for Hawa [Koomson].”

Dr Bawumia is on tour campaigning to delegates to be elected the 2024 Presidential Candidate of the NPP.

A special congress will be held on Saturday, August 26 to prune the number of candidates, now 10, to 5 for the November 4 presidential primaries.
