Valentine’s Day is not for sex – Cynthia Morrison cautions young people

Member of Parliament for Agona West Constituency and a former minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection Cynthia Mamle Morrison has advised people, especially young girls not to mistake Valentine’s Day for sex.

She argued that just as 25 December has been accepted by many as Christmas, the same has to do with Valentine’s Day because there should be a day for something like; farmer’s day, and teacher’s day, the whole world has come to accept 14 February as Valentine’s Day so we take February as the month of love.

According to her, Valentine’s Day is a special day because it is a day that people who do not hear or feel loved get to experience it. Thus, waking up to messages on one’s phone alone shows at least someone cares.

The legislator told 3FM Sunrise host Johnnie Hughes that Valentine is special but unfortunately it is being turned into something else which is misleading a lot of people to see valentine’s day as a period for sex.

The former minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection disclosed that her past encounter with a teenage girl has made her to use Valentine day as a day to educate and counsel young people especially girls that the day is not meant for sex.

“Unfortunately that is what it has turned into and I wish we could use the media to educate young people, especially the girls. As for boys you can impregnate a girl and go, nobody will know you have impregnated a girl but the young lady will have to stop schooling or work because of the pregnancy and might not even find the guy again” Madam Cynthia Morrison expressed her worry.
