GFF celebrates Environmental Day in Prestea Huni Valley Municipality

The world environment day is celebrated every year on 5th June to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet earth. It is a day that reminds everyone on the planet to get involved in environment friendly activities. Inline with that, Green Fortland Foundation celebrated the occassion in Prestea Huni Valley municipality.

The theme for the occassion was globally was “Only One Earth”. However, in Prestea Huni Valley Municipality, the foundation narrowed the theme to ‘One Planet, Let’s Protect’.

Green Fortland Foundation(GFF) a non- Governmental Organization in collaboration with Ghana Education Service sampled schools from the Prestea-Huni Valley Municipality together to pledge towards building a greener planet by planting sapling trees within the Prestea township as well as creating awareness for people to understand the need to protect our environment. The students demonstrated high enthusiasm. The event was conducted successfully with whole hearted participation and awareness about plants.

On the saturday, 4th of June, the foundation, as part of the activities to earmark the occasion went on excursion with the students to the Hiawa Prisons located at the Bawdie-Asankragwa road. Students had the opportunity to interact with inmates and also donated items to enhance their welfare in the re-formation center.

The occasion was climaxed on Sunday by launching the Green Schools Club at the Prestea Workers Club. The occassion was graced by various dignitaries from the Prestea Municipality. The Guest speaker, Dr. Thomas Wi-Afedzi, a senior lecturer from the University of Mines and Technology. Amongst the guests included the chief commander of Hiawa Prison, CSP Daniel Naja Donkor, Ghana Education Service(GES) Representives and the Ghana Police service.

Amongst the schools from which student converged were Prestea Senior High Technical, Goldfields, SDA Basic and Anglican Schools.
