#SoNA: PNC applauds Akufo-Addo for ‘show of sincerity’

The opposition People’s National Convention (PNC) has congratulated President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for what the party says is the president’s “show of sincerity and statesmanship exhibited” when he delivered the State of the Nation’s Address on Wednesday, 30 March 2022.

According to the PNC, the President in his address did acknowledge the difficulties in the country, “and it was a show of good leadership when the government in recent times cut down on its expenditure.”

This act of cutting down on expenditure, the PNC said, has given the government the moral right to call on the citizenry to appreciate government’s efforts in dealing with the situation.

The PNC in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Janet Nabla noted that “the President, in his speech, attempted to address the major concerns of the nation amongst them were the economy, roads and transports, education and health. Much have been done in the sectors stated above and much is still needed to be done by the government to make lives better for Ghanaians.”

The statement said the Covid-19 devastation of the world economy coupled with the war in Ukraine has emitted hardship across the continents and it is by forming a united front, prudent management of resources and a transparent system that will keep this country running.

The PNC further stated that although the president in his statement enumerated the list of projects that have been completed and the ones on-going, investing in agriculture is another way to go.

The opposition party said it is convinced the government’s commitment towards agriculture by rehabilitating some dams to aid farmers will help to get an all-year round farming.

The PNC implored other opposition political parties, Civil Society Organisations, NGOs and all well-meaning Ghanaians to join hands with the government to bring the economy back on track through constructive criticisms, offering advice when the need arises and “putting our partisan interest aside for the interest of all.”
