UTAG temporarily suspends strike

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has resolved to temporarily suspend its strike.

The decision was taken by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of UTAG at an emergency meeting on Monday, 21 February, 2022 at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

UTAG has been on strike since January 10 to force the government to restore an agreement they had in 2012 concerning their conditions of service.

An injunction has, however, been placed on the strike after an appeal by the National Labour Commission (NLC) after the court had earlier ordered UTAG and NLC to settle their differences out of the court.

According to UTAG, the suspension of the strike will last until March 4 by which time they believe they will receive a favourable outcome from government.

They want the Basic plus Market Premium of a lecturer which stands at $2,084.42 to be restored as agreed in 2012.
