'It's really painful we don't tout our achievements' – NDC's Awo Kekeli

‘It’s really painful we don’t tout our achievements’ – NDC’s Awo Kekeli

A member of the communication team of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ms Awo Kekeli, has observed that her party’s weakness in selling its achievements to the Ghanaian people is what leads to its defeat at the hands of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which, in her view, always comes to destroy whatever the NDC administration builds while in power.

“One thing that really pains me is that my party, NDC, always builds this country when in power but then relaxes for the NPP to come and take what they’ve built only to destroy it”, she told Nana Yaw Adwenpa and Afia Papabi on CTV’s morning show Dwabremu on Tuesday, 17 August 2021.

“We don’t speak about our projects, we don’t tell the people what we are doing and the NPP will take over and they will come and destroy everything for us and we have to come back and rebuild”, she bemoaned during a discussion on President Nana Akufo-Addo’s Agenda 111 Project.

According to her, “that is my reservation with the NDC because these NPP friends don’t care about the nation”.

President Akufo-Addo, in his 8th televised address to the nation on measures to control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic on Sunday, 26 April 2020, stated: “We will, this year, begin constructing eighty-eight (88) hospitals in the districts without hospitals.

“It will mean ten (10) in Ashanti, nine (9) in Volta, nine (9) in Central, eight (8) in Eastern, seven (7) in Greater Accra, seven (7) in Upper East, five (5) in Northern, five (5) in Oti, five (5) in Upper West, five (5) in Bono, four (4) in Western North, four (4) in Western, three (3) in Ahafo, three (3) in Savannah, two (2) in Bono East and two (2) in North East region”.

In her view, President Akufo-Addo disrespected Ghanaians when he failed to fulfil his initial promise to build 88 district hospitals in areas without one last year only to shift the goalpost to promise Agenda 111.

“It’s disrespectful to Ghanaians for President Akufo-Addo to have promised to build the hospitals and not deliver”, she said, adding that he made that promise just to gain votes.

To her, the NPP are always scheming to make political gain.

“They are looking at 2024 without thinking of Ghanaians”, she said.

“They don’t care about what happens to us as Ghanaians”.

“NPP and Nana Addo don’t care about any Ghanaian”.

“They are not serious. Even God hates people who make vows and don’t fulfil it. They are a bunch of unserious people in this country”, she fumed.

She said all the president is scheming to do is “to ensure that an NPP government takes the reins of power after him”.
