The Shaip Africa Foundation, a non-governmental Organization saw the need to enrich the blood bank of the St. Martins De Poress Hospital in Eikwe of Ellembelle district in the western region to enable them to render the necessary health care services to patients who would be in need.
The blood screening and the donation exercise was held on Tuesday, 29, as part of their routine social quota of the organization towards development.
Mr. Isaac Kaku, the organizer of the NGO told New Day FM Journalist Kaakyire Kwasi Afari that, the non profit organization has the obligation to holistically meet the needs of people in Ellembelle and that necessitated the blood donation exercise to the sole hospital in the district.
The executives of Shaip Africa Foundation says members from the National Service accepted to partner with the Foundation because they believed in the health of society especially patients in need of blood to survive.
“The Shaip Africa Foundation appealed to the National Service that we wanted them to support our blood donation exercise and they thought it was needful to do that because saving the lives of people is a good thing to write about” they stressed.
Mr. Isaac Kaku urged the people in Nzema to develop the habit of donating blood to save lives.
The president of the National Service Personnel in Ellembelle, Mr. Jeffrey Eduah Hackman said, the hospital mostly lament over shortage of blood and as a result, they recorded high mortality rate.
This, he said, the NGO saw it needful to collaborate with them to generously donate to fill the blood bank to ensure effective healthcare delivery.
Mr. Hackman urged Ghanaians to do away with all superstitious believes surrounding blood donation in our society.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the hospital, Agartha Ampaabeng Cheremeh from the Laboratory Department, expressed her profound gratitude to the National Service Personnel and the Shaip Africa Foundation for the kind gesture.
She expressed the hope that the exercise would shore up the number of units that the hospital had in its blood bank, adding that “this is going to save a lot of lives”.
She added that what the volunteers have embarked on is something worth emulating by corporate organisations, philanthropists and individuals who feel like giving pints of blood.
Measures according to the Lab practitioner, was effectively put in place to receive any side effects or complains from the donners after donating to the hospital hence, there is no need for alarm.
