AMEND PARTY CONSTITUTION TO PROTECT THE BEST PERFORMING MP’S~~~ OFFINSO MP TO POLITICAL PARTIES.

The member of Parliament for Offinso South Constituency, Hon. Ben Abdalla Banda suggested that all Political parties in Ghana should Amend their constitution to preferably appoint or protect the best performing MP’s in their various constituencies.

Ben Abdallah, MP for Offinso-South and Chairman of Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee made the call for an extension of the tenure of lawmakers on Offinso based Time FM evening news on Wednesday.

Hon. Ben Abdallah Banda lost his seat to Dr. Isaac Yaw Opoku despite his remarkable role in Parliament in the NPP parliamentary primary.



The NPP Offinso South MP says parliamentary works is seriously affected after parliamentary primary’s over the loss of best performing parliamentarian’s who are nurtured in the house standing orders.

The long-serving lawmaker explained that the framers of the party’s Constitution may have overlooked the fact that a four-year tenure for a fresh parliamentary primaries was not enough for effective performance.

Mr Abdallah, stated that If everyone leaves parliament to make way for fresh faces every four years, the strength of Parliament may be weaken since parliament is a house of procedure and precedents.

The MP believes “building the capacity of a Member of Parliament is not a four-year matter; it is not even an eight-year matter. The axiom is that in parliament, the longer a person stays the better he becomes,” he told Kaakyire Kwasi Afari.

He said the constraints of the pivotal role by Parliamentarians in lawmaking for a developing nation such as Ghana requires more serving years to make any broad understanding and meaningful impact in governance.
