COVID-19: Kwahu Easter called off

The Kwahu Traditional Council has called off the annual Kwahu Easter festivities and all activities associated with it due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

The move is also in response to the government’s four-week ban on all social gatherings including festivals, church and mosque services, funerals and sporting activities.

For several years, Kwahu has become a major destination for Easter celebrations, hosting thousands of people who go there for paragliding fun and business.

The Council has gone a step further to suspend visits to various places in Kwahu, unless they are extremely important.

All public engagements with the chiefs have been cancelled but the Akwasidea festival will be celebrated with minimal contacts and restricted to indoor traditional ceremonies.

The chiefs and people of Kwahu have also been advised to travel only when necessary and take extreme caution if they have to.

Ghana has so far recorded six cases of coronavirus.
