Planned rail services on Takoradi-Tarkwa route suspended

The Ghana Railway Company has suspended its intended passenger services from Takoradi to Tarkwa scheduled for February 5.

According to the Company, the decision was as a result of the high patronage for the transport service during the 3-day free ride piloting.

The Ghana Railways Company had announced that rail passenger services from Takoradi to Tarkwa in the Western Region will commence from February 5, 2020.

The decision for the free train ride service followed the successful completion and test runs of rehabilitation works on the Takoradi to Tarkwa rail line.

Speaking to Empire News’ Emmanuel Ohene-Gyan, Acting Chief for Civil Engineer, Ing Michael Kobena Addison denied reports that safety precautions have been compromised following what the company says is a partial derailment of a cargo train at Nsuta in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality

“After the test runs, Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) has given certification for the Ghana Railway Company Limited to commence passenger services on the line”, the statement said.
