NPP Parliamentary primaries: Asher Ayisi to be contested?

Although the incumbent New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast North (CCN) constituency, Barbara Asher Ayisi, has not picked forms yet to contest in the party’s upcoming primaries, she seems to be getting more competitors as a formal Assembly member of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA ) picks nomination form to contest.

Lawrence Ampah popularly known in Cape Coast as ”Hon Pablo” picked his forms at the party’s constituency office in Abura on Wednesday.

Addressing the media after the picking of the form, the immediate past Finance and Administration (F&A) subcommittee chairman of the CCMA said he was optimistic that he would win both the primaries and the subsequent general election, saying, his decision to contest follows calls from the grassroot members of the party, some members of the opposition parties and the floating voters in the constituency.

According him, his absence in the 2020 general election will be a harm to the Party in the constituency.

“Even though we’re hosting the Cape Coast North seat but it is not safe. The seat is quite shaky and I’m coming in as one person who has toiled so much for the party within the constituency to ensure that we retain the seat come 2020 general election,” the member of the party’s finance group said.

In his company were some party supporters and delegates which some of them told the press that they would do everything they could for him to win the primaries in order for him to, in the long run, win the general election in December.

“I’m not just a party member, I am a delegate and we are bringing him because we know the kind of candidate the people of Cape Coast North want….and not only party members in the constituency; even members of the other parties are clamoring for him so trust me, if he [Pablo] wins the primaries, the general election will be a done deal for us,” a supporter narrated.

Madam Stella Bilson, chairperson of the 5-member electoral committee, in presenting the forms urged Mr Ampah to run harmless and insult-free campaign saying, “this is a family affair, no insult, no inflammatory language to opponent because we’re all one and all what we are looking is for the party to win the 2020 elections so we should not do something that may go against us during the general election.”

Our checks from the party’s office revealed that one Joseph Thomas Baiden had gone to pick a form.

A deep throat from the deputy Works and Housing minister’s camp tells Kojo Ata Kakrah Abrowah that she [hon. Barbara Ayisi] would surely contest in the primaries.
