GFA Congress Updates: GPL Clubs to maintain 18-team league structure

The Ghana Football Association’s Congress has voted to maintain the new 18-team league structure beyond the 2019/2020 season.

It will be recalled that during the last Elective Congress in October, it was unanimously agreed that the 2019/2020 season should be expanded from 16 to 18 teams to among other reasons reinstate Accra Great Olympics and King Faisal into the elite division so that both of them can drop their legal battle with the GFA.

At the 25th Ordinary Congress which was held at Prampram on Thursday, 77 out of 78 members who were present voted in support of motion to keep the status quo beyond this season. Only 1 abstained.

Congress also voted to amend the statutes on relegation and promotion. Instead of 5 clubs being relegated from the Premier League, 3 clubs will now be relegated and 3 clubs will also be promoted to the Premier League from Division One.
