Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital Burgled: Management Cry For tight Security

Management and staff of Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital (APH) in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) municipality of the Central region could not believed their eyes on Tuesday morning as some unidentified robbers had broken into the finance department of the facility.

The robbers who probably stormed the facility on Tuesday dawn, broke the main administration door, made their way into the finance department, through to the accounts office and then dismantled a concrete structure housing the facility’s safe and made away with it (the safe).

In an interview with Kojo Ata Kakrah Abrowah, the head of Administration at the APH, Mr Thomas Chireh, revealed that the safe contained some cheque books, monies and other confidential and valuable documents.

They, according to him, moved to the registry and the Hospital director’s office and made away with laptop and mobile phone respectively.

He explained further that crime rate at the facility had been on the rise for quite too long and blamed the canker on the lack of security at the facility and police patrol.

“Prior to my coming to this hospital this year, one of our staff [Mr Bart-Plange] was reported to had been attacked and injured by some robbers on the road while on his motorbike……even just three days ago, the robbers broke into one of our female nurses’ room and by God grace they did not touch her but they collected her phones, monies and other things then asked her to sleep for it was not yet time for her to wake up and then they left,” Mr Chireh chided and added, “we beg the municipal and the regional police commanders to extend their night patrols to this place because this vicinity hosts three government institutions, just across is the leprosarium, prisons is just around there and we [Psychiatric hospital] are also here, but security is very poor over here so we beg them… the two commanders should answer our plea because already, most professionals, when posted to here refuse to come because of the location and when they hear that there is poor security here, many will not want to come.”
