Man Utd chief Ed Woodward discusses sacking three people ahead of Tottenham clash

Manchester United chief Ed Woodward is set to watch the club’s Premier League match with Tottenham on Wednesday.
Manchester United chief Ed Woodward has opened up on sacking Jose Mourinho, Louis van Gaal and David Moyes ahead of his team’s Premier League clash with Tottenham. Mourinho will be making his first return to Old Trafford since his departure in December.
Manchester United supremo Woodward has admitted he’s hated relieving Mourinho, Van Gaal and Moyes of their duties during his time at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have gone through three permanent managers in the years since Sir Alex Ferguson walked away from the job.

Moyes lasted just 10 months into a six-year deal at United.

He was then replaced by Van Gaal in the summer of 2014 but, even though the Dutchman delivered FA Cup glory, his head also rolled.

Mourinho was brought in and made an instant impression, helping United win the EFL Cup and the Europa League during his first season at the helm.
However, he was axed in December after United had fallen well adrift in the race for the Premier League top four.
And Woodward, in the second half of his interview with United We Stand, has admitted he hated sacking Moyes, Van Gaal and Mourinho.

“Grim,” he said when asked how he felt doing the deed.

“It’s not a pleasant experience and I hope I never have to do it again.”

Mourinho will take his Tottenham side to Old Trafford for the first time since he was sacked 12 months ago.

And he’s been sent a touching message from Michael Carrick, who worked alongside the Portuguese as both player and coach.

Carrick told the Daily Mail: “I have got a lot to thank him (Mourinho) for. He knows that.
“He gave me an opportunity with the coaching, the next chapter if you like.

“I will always be grateful for that. It wasn’t something he had to do, it was his choice.

“For what he has achieved, there is no way I couldn’t learn from him.

“It was my first time coaching as well so it was all new to me.

“To have him there and guide me as he did then, obviously I am all the better for that.”
Carrick is looking forward to the upcoming clash at Old Trafford with Tottenham and believes United have a lot to prove after losing 3-0 at home last season.

“It is going to be a big game on Wednesday. I really look forward to it,” the five-time Premier League winner added.

“It was a strange game between us last season.

“We played some good stuff but they have real talent [and Spurs won 3-0].

“I can’t speak for Jose. I can only thank him for what he’s done for me.”
