Man Utd chief Ed Woodward agrees with colleagues on Mauricio Pochettino job decision

Manchester United chief Ed Woodward has long admired former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Manchester United supremo Ed Woodward and his colleagues are in agreement that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the right man for the Old Trafford job despite the availability of former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, according to reports.
Manchester United manager Solskjaer has found himself under pressure to turn things around at Old Trafford amid his side’s wayward form.

After a bright spell last month, they’ve been unable to rediscover the same winning momentum with the club failing to beat the likes of Sheffield United, Astana and Aston Villa of late.

Many have called for Manchester United to appoint Pochettino as Solskjaer’s replacement, with the Argentine now available after leaving Tottenham last month.

But The Athletic say that United chief Woodward has agreed with his colleagues that it’s best to give Solskjaer time to turn things around.

Doing that will be easier said than done.
The Red Devils look turgid and insipid with their style of play no better than it was 12 months ago.

Jose Mourinho ruled the United roost at that time but will take his Tottenham side to Old Trafford on Wednesday aiming to inflict another bad result on his former side.

After United’s Premier League clash with Tottenham, they go up against Manchester City on Saturday.

And defeats in both of their upcoming matches would likely see the pressure build on Solskjaer, despite the club’s current stance.

Meanwhile, ESPN pundit Craig Burley believes Pochettino would be the ideal manager to help turn the Red Devils around.
“The longer they sit on their hands and say ‘no, we’re going to do it this way, we’re quite happy, we’ve got transfer windows coming up’, the managers out there that are free – Pochettino, Allegri, they’re going to waltz into other big jobs,” Burley said.

“I think United should go out and get something on paper, an agreement, with Pochettino.

“There are lots of deficiencies at Manchester United.

“You’ve got the chief executive, the ownership, the football department, the playing staff, and the manager.

“It’s a good job he had that new manager bounce when he first came in.
“He’s got that new manager bounce, otherwise that [win percentage] would be closer to 10 per-cent.”

As well as Pochettino, United have also been linked with Massimiliano Allegri.

The Italian is currently available having left Juventus at the end of last season, shortly after another Serie A triumph.

RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann also has his admirers at Old Trafford.

And so too does Ralf Rangnick – but he could end up moving to United as director of football instead.
