Three managers to take Old Trafford hot seat if Man Utd sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has come under pressure after winning just three Premier League matches this season. These are the three most likely candidates to take over as manager if Old Trafford chiefs decide to sack Solskjaer, including Massimiliano Allegri and Mauricio Pochettino.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has come under increasing amounts of pressure since taking over as permanent manager in March.

The club are currently 10th in the Premier League table, and have only won three of their 11 fixtures.

After spending almost £150million in the summer, the United board were probably expecting better results this season.

If Solskjaer is to face the axe, the three most likely candidates to take over are Massimiliano Allegri, Mauricio Pochettino, and Ralf Rangnick.

Massimiliano Allegri

Allegri has been linked with the United job since before Jose Mourinho took charge in 2016.

He’s been out of work since leaving Juventus this summer, after spending five years in Turin.

He won Serie A with Juventus for five years in a row, while also winning four Italian Cups.

The 52-year-old has been spotted watching United recently, alongside former Red Devils left-back Patrice Evra, leading fans to believe Allegri is soon to become the new manager.

Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham manager Pochettino was expected to follow Mourinho in taking control at Old Trafford.

But, with Mourinho leaving halfway through last season, the club were left scrambling for a replacement; Solskjaer.

With Spurs under-performing so far this season, Pochettino may consider this an ideal time to make the move to Manchester.

He’d have a much larger transfer budget than he currently does at Spurs. Given he’s become increasingly frustrated with a lack of funds at Tottenham, it may contribute to his decision to leave north London.

Ralf Rangnick

Former RB Leipzig boss Rangnick is the third-favourite for the Old Trafford job, if Solskjaer is sacked.

The German had a very impressive record at Leipzig, and has also been in charge at Schalke, Stuttgart and Hoffenheim.

The 61-year-old is hotly tipped to takeover from Niko Kovac at Bayern Munich, however.

Rangnick has never managed outside of Germany, which could make Old Trafford an even more daunting prospect.
