DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – The Democratic state parties in Iowa and Nevada are making changes in their caucus systems in time for next year’s presidential election. The two state parties plan to allow party members to weigh in over the telephone instead of being required to attend traditional meetings. The changes are expected to increase participation in Iowa and Nevada, two of the first four states to vote for a Democratic nominee.

RENO, Nev. (AP) – A new 3-mile-long bicycle and pedestrian trail hugging the northeast shore of Lake Tahoe is providing access to hidden beaches and a bird’s-eye view of the cobalt waters never available before. The Tahoe East Shore Trail that opened June 28 includes an 810-foot long bridge overhanging the lakeshore between Incline Village and the state park at Sand Harbor.

RENO, Nev. (AP) – Students who lived at a University of Nevada, Reno, dormitory building that was heavily damaged by an explosion are trying to pick up the pieces even as they prepare for exams. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports Sunday that students like 19-year-old Emma Spingler are missing things like study notes, laptops, clothing left behind when they fled the building on Friday.

LAS VEGAS (AP) – Police are searching for a driver who fatally struck a motorcyclist and also hit several stopped cars. Las Vegas police say a woman driving a white Nissan Altima ran a red light and crashed into a motorcycle on Saturday night. Police say she then veered into the opposite lane and struck several stopped cars before jumping out and running away.
