BARCELONA star Lionel Messi has risked damaging the club’s hopes of signing Antoine Griezmann with a transfer demand, according to reports.
Barcelona appear to be in pole position to sign Griezmann from Atletico Madrid at the end of the season.
The France international was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer – but ended up sticking it out at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Some reports have even gone as far to say the 26-year-old has agreed to make the move to the Nou Camp come the end of the campaign.
But Spanish outlet Diario Gol say club talisman Lionel Messi could actually end up costing Barcelona the signing of Griezmann.
It is said the 30-year-old does not want the Catalan giants to sign anyone that could cost Luis Suarez his place in the team.
Suarez has been a regular at Barcelona ever since signing from Liverpool in the summer of 2014.
The Uruguay international is a popular figure at the Nou Camp having helped Barcelona win all trophies available during his time at the club.
But, with just three goals to his name so far this season, Suarez appears to be showing signs of waning.
And Diario Gol say Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde wants Griezmann to be his replacement.
However, Messi’s wish may throw a spanner into the works.
The Argentina international is close friends with Suarez – both on and off the pitch.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has insisted he wants Griezmann to stay put.
“We have made a great effort to keep him [Griezmann] and all of the players,” he told Marca.
“In these moments, the problem that Griezmann has had is that a series of new stories, that always arise, that say that the most important teams in Europe want him did not benefit him.
“Griezmann is and will be an Atletico player. He is an important player, he is at an important club and wants to win things with Atletico.”
