Soldiers To Ward Off Foreigners From Ghanaian Passports

The Passport Office has enlisted the support of the Military to ward off foreign nationals who may attempt to secure Ghanaian passports.

The move is anchored on what appears to be the growing appetite especially ECOWAS nationals have developed for Ghanaian passports. It is widely believed that the goodwill Ghanaians enjoy worldwide makes it easy for a bearer of a Ghanaian passport to enjoy certain privileges.

Director of passports Emmanuel Enos told Starr News the integrity of Ghana’s national passport system needs to be protected.

“Why will people want to acquire the Ghanaian passport and more than any other country’s passport, it’s because of the integrity of the Ghanaian passport. People believe that the passport has integrity so they want to get the Ghanaian passport. We will ensure that people that are found out we will follow it up and make sure they are prosecuted, physically we will introduce military Police to enforce the measures that we put there”.

Meanwhile, Ghana will soon replace biometric passports currently issued with microchip embedded ones. The chip which will be similar to an ATM card, will contain personal data of holders. According to government, the new passports will have more enhanced security features.
