GIMPA, ACIJC honour ICC prosecutor

The Executive Chairman of the McDan Group Dr. Daniel McKorley has, on behalf of the Ghana Institute of Managament and Public Administration (GIMPA) presented a giant plaque to honour Ms. Fatou Bensouda, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The presentation was done during the launch of the African Center on International Criminal Justice (ACIJC) under Law Faculty of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

The Centre which was commissioned by the Chief Justice, Sophia Akufo, is expected to build capacity in advancement of criminal justice.




Being an alumnus of GIMPA himself and having supported the Institute in diverse ways, the McDan boss could not have been more humbled in presenting the plaque to the colossus in law and a prosecutor par excellence -Ms Bensouda- for her commitment to rule of law, justice and human rights.

The giant gold plated plaque read ” On behalf of the management of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration  (Gimpa) & the African Center of International Criminal Justice (ACICJ), this Plaque is presented to H.E Ms Fatou Bensouda in recognition of her tireless efforts at globalizing criminal justice and ending impunity. This recognition further testifies to our shares vision of advancing the frontiers of the rule of law in a world of  atrocities and injustice.”

The plaque is also decorated with many adinkra symbols, prominent among them is the “Gye Nyame” (nothing is possible without God).

The colourful ceremony was chaired by Prof. Akua Kuenyehia, former Vice President of the International Criminal Court, who stressed the need for the African continent to see the ICC as an ally in combating the incidence of atrocities against human kind.

Mr. Ernest Kofi Abotsi, Dean of the GIMPA Law Faculty expressed gratitude to the Embassy of The Netherlands who have already provided €100,000 to aid the work of the center.

According to Mr Abotsi, the center has the ambition to expand its facilities over the next few years to aid its work.

Also present to support the launch were the acting Rector of GIMPA, Prof. Bondzi-Simpson,  Prof Akua Mensah-Bonsu of the Legon Center for International Affairs (LECIA) and the Acting Dutch Ambassador to Ghana, Ms Caecilia Wijgers.
