NO PROPER ROAD NO CAMPAIGN- ANGRY CHIEFS AND ASSEMBLY MEMBERS THREATENED

The aggrieved Chiefs and Assembly Members of Assin Sienchem, Gangan and other Electoral Areas in the Assin North District of Central Region have threatened to boycott 2020 general election if the roads leading from Assin Nyankomasi, Gangan, Bediadua, Sienchem to Pra Agave, are not fixed.

According to them, even though they had complained on countless occasions about the nature of their roads to the appropriate authorities, they remained in a poor state.

The immediate past government awarded the projects to a contractor through Cocoa roads policy, unfortunately change of government came, but they know government is continuity but the New patriotic party government led by Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo abrogated the projects which was 80% completion.
Now, the projects has gone beyond continuation, which is financial lost to the state.

Some of the residents also noted that many pregnant women in labour died while being conveyed to the St. Francis Xavier hospital at Assin Foso.

They also said the bad roads were affecting economic activities in the area as commercial vehicles had refused to ply the route, charging exorbitant fares, anytime they agreed to render the service.

“A farmer who was bitten by a snake and a woman in labour died because no vehicle was ready to transport them to the hospital due to the bad nature of the road,” a resident bemoaned.

Speaking to Splash Fm news reporter Nana Korankye Apomuden, they said, lack of police post in the area also contributes to high crime in the area,
“We the farmers are suffering, they even steal our farm products especially cocoa,
Our humble appeal is that government should help us get one police post to reduce crimes.

They finally, urged the Assin North Member of Parliament Hon. Abena Druwaa Mensah to as a matter of urgency intervene because their farm products rot because of their deployed road .
Ministry of roads and high way and Cocoa board to construct their deplorable and death trapped roads.
The communities are cocoa producing areas, so if government continue neglect them, they will cut down all their cocoa trees. they threatened.
