🇬🇭 *GOVERNMENT/GES MUST RESPECT TEACHERS* – *Educate Ghana Summit*

Educate Ghana Summit Boss Mr. Boadi William is very furious about the trending issues confronting teachers. Our interrogations has confirmed that teachers were not informed earlier before Government, GES and SIC through collusion deducted Ghc10 from their June, 2018 scanty salaries.

We strongly object such unexpected and unlawful act by the so called Big Men out there, why Teachers?
My fellow Ghanaians let’s take the pain and check how teachers salaries usually suffer:
*a. GNAT Cancer*
*b. GNAT Dues*
*C. GNAT Mutual fund*
*d. GNAT Tier 3*
*e. Teachers credit union*
*f. Teachers welfare*
*g. School welfare*
*h. Personal insurance*
*I. Personal loan deduction*
*j. Directors send off*
*k. SSNIT*
*l. Then GES SIC life insurance*

On the more serious note, Let’s be fair to teachers because looking at their efforts, they rather deserves to have the title *”honourable members”* why?…They impart knowledge without enjoying the following;
*Over time allowance*
*Clothing allowance*
*Per Diem*
*Risk allowance* etc, isn’t it?…..

Reasons to my problem,

1. *No legally binding contract* : In this case, the *insurer* and the *insured* needs to establish consensus for the beneficiaries to realise the *circumspect* at the end of the contract. Teachers didn’t agree to sign this contract with SIC, nor did not give their consent to GES/Government to do so on their behalf.

2. *Unlawful deductions* :The deductions made are unlawful and disrespectful. *Unlawful* because no one should take your money without your lawful authorisation. *Disrespectful* because no one should take your money before telling you about it.

3. *Expensive premium* For a group insurance policy covering over 400,000 members (albeit unauthorized), a (subsidized) premium of GHC 10 against insured lump sums of GHC 18,000 (for death) and 9,000 (for critical illness) is too expensive.

4. *SIC alone benefits* Statistically, only SIC (which is govt owned) stands to gain. It will make GHC 4,000,000 a month and pay less than GHC 100,000 out as claims. We know SIC is indebted, but this is a crude way to raise money to pay off its debts.

5. *Wrong default membership* By default, teachers should opt in, not opt out. SIC/GES should have asked teachers interested in the scheme to opt in, and not take the money first and ask teachers to opt out (through a complicated process that doesn’t even exist).

6. *SSNIT covers death and disability* Death and disability are already covered by the Pensions Act. A critical illness cover could be a good thing. But teachers through their unions must make the decision and negotiate the premium and cover sum. The employer cannot make the decision and force it on teachers. That’s not how the rule of law works in a democracy.

7. *Immediate refund* SIC must immediately refund to teachers the illegal deductions made from June salaries and further apologize for this unlawful act.

8. *Sue SIC, and join GES, Government and CAGD* In the event that SIC fails to refund teachers and apologize, leadership of teacher unions must seek protection from the law immediately.

In fact, this is unprecedented and unprofessional.
If government pays teachers well, they could cater for their bills.
*This disregard towards teachers must stop now !*.
