Man Utd truths exposed: MUTV pundit reveals why Pogba was dropped and latest transfer news

A STRING of Manchester United revelations have been made by MUTV pundit Gary Pallister.
Pallister, who won four Premier League titles with United and is now employed by the club as a pundit, has revealed all on the supposed rows at Old Trafford, who could be leaving and the major problems with the club’s current players.

At the heart of these appears to be club-record signing Paul Pogba.

Jose Mourinho last month admitted Pogba’s form has dropped – then axed him from the starting line-up for the Champions League clash with Sevilla.

It led to suggestions the two have had a blazing row and that Pogba could leave if Mourinho stays.

However, Pallister insists the two haven’t had a bust-up and says the midfielder has been axed because of a lack of discipline.

He told Sporting Bet: “He’s a physical, imposing midfielder. I think he prefers to play on the left-hand side of the midfield three. It’s not when he’s on the ball, it’s when he’s off the ball that’s the issue.
“He’s got great vision, but without the ball, he looks uncomfortable.

“As a team, Jose is trying to make them better without the ball, pressing higher up the pitch and winning the second balls, but it’s not something they’re good at currently.

“He wants more discipline and that’s why he dropped Pogba. I think that the rumours of rifts are rubbish, and he displayed against Chelsea that he had a bit of fire in his belly.

“He kept the ball and joined up with the attack, which is when he’s at his best I learnt under Sir Alex that you have do as the manager says and if you don’t you’ll get left outside.”

Pallister has been left impressed by Scott McTominay who he believes is “grasping his chance in the side and now deserves his place”.

But there could be new additions on the way in the summer with Pallister understanding Michael Carrick will take up a coaching role at the club after hanging up his boots.

It was announced in January that Carrick would be retiring and Mourinho has invited him to join the backroom team. It would leave United short of midfielders, however, with Marouane Fellaini’s future also uncertain.
Fellaini is out of contract at the end of the season and has opened talks with Roma – although Pallister is desperate for him to stay.

“Michael Carrick looks set to retire after years of great service and he could take up a coaching role at the club,” he said.

“But you never want to talk about players leaving, but rather about those coming in. You need a strong bench in the Premier League now, so it’s important to keep players like Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera in the squad.”

Pallister is a huge Alexis Sanchez fan and believes the new signing could fire them to Champions League glory.

He is calling for more from Romelu Lukaku, however, who he believes needs to be stronger because United’s build-up play is too “lethargic”.
“The way United set up, you need that creative spark to get Romelu going,” he said.

“There are certainly bits to his game he needs to improve. He needs to be stronger when holding up the ball, being that pivotal figure, and then bring in the players around him.

“We need to be more creative in the final third, our build up has been a touch slow and lethargic.

“He’s scored 23 goals this year, which you can asked any more of your centre-forward but with Sanchez, it will only benefit Lukaku.”
