Let’s tolerate each other to deepen Ghana’s democracy – UN Amb.

The Country Director of the International Association of World Peace Advocates, Ghana, Bishop Dr Samuel Ben Owusu, has stated that the UN is committed to strengthening tolerance by fostering mutual understanding among people, cultures and nations.

Speaking on the occasion of the United Nations International Day of Tolerance in Accra on Tuesday, 16 November 2021, Bishop Owusu noted that the United Nations believes “we can only progress in standing together, loving each other; understanding each other’s rights, gift and talents and contributing to our growth.”

Speaking on the theme: ‘Standing together for progress’, he urged individuals to tolerate each other, as every person has the right to live, have a good social life and also enjoy the harmony of peace and glory of the nation.

The United Nations Eminent Peace Ambassador in Ghana reiterated his call on all individuals to come together and stand together and tolerate each other on building a progressive nation.

Bishop Owusu also condemned hate speech and insults on social media stating that it is a recipe for disaster, adding that all must come together to condemn it.

For his part, security analyst Adam Bonaa called on Ghanaians to be tolerant of each other to deepen the country’s democracy.

Citing the Achimota School Rastafarian issue and others as examples, he reiterated the need for tolerance among each other.

He advised the youth, especially in the Muslim communities, to accept diverse opinions to help in nation-building.

Present at the occasion were personnel from the Ghana Police Service, National Peace Council, Muslim heads, members of the clergy, members from the entertainment industry, various ambassadors of the United Nations, representatives from the National Commission for Civic Education, security experts and the media.
