PNC welcomes gov’t’s digitalisation agenda but warns against corrupt scandals

The People’s National Convention (PNC) has welcomed the digitalisation agenda of the government spearheaded by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to the PNC, digitalisation is vital in transforming social services, finance, health, education, and agriculture.

The PNC in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Janet Nabla noted that although the party has some few reservations, it believes this agenda must not be denigrated and discouraged by stakeholders.

“Those of us criticising must do so towards bettering the agenda and making it achievable. Imagine being able to recharge your prepared ECG meter, renew your NHIS card, make all sort of payments for goods and services, transfer money to family and friends via all communication networks and initiate the process of renewing your driving license, passport amongst several others from the comfort of your home, don’t these give a great feeling of comfort?” the statement said.

“Again, wouldn’t these avoid long queues at the offices where these services are rendered and wasting precious time that could be used for other important purposes? It is no wonder that, The World Economic Forum’s Global Information Report estimates that ‘an increase of 10% in a country’s digitisation score fuels a 0.75% growth in GDP per capita,’” the statement added.

The PNC said the prospects in digitalising Ghana’s economy will surely and indirectly put money in the pocket of Ghanaians.

Despite these prospects, the PNC has raised concerns with the poor communication network and poor internet services in most part of the country; making the realisation of these prospects difficult.

According to the party, generally, Ghanaians are complaining of poor internet and communication services and these must be addressed as soon as possible.

“Again, we are asking for a judicious spending in the digitisation agenda and to avoid any corruption scandals,” the statement said.

The PNC assured Ghanaians that when the party comes into power, it shall equally prioritise the digitisation of the Ghanaian economy but in a much better form
