C/R: Support your wives during labor – Regional minister to men

The Central Regional Minister Justina Marigold Assan has charged husbands to support their wives during labor to reduce the high rate of child mortality being recorded at the Saltpond Hospital.

According to her, especially in the labor room, women need a level of love and attention from their partners, which has been proven to aid in a smooth delivery.

She made the call on the sidelines of the launch of the 2021 World Preeclampsia Day held at Saltpond in the Mfantseman Municipality in the Central Region.

The day was to educate pregnant women who are yet to deliver at the hospital.

Speaking to Kasapa FM’s Yaw Boagyan, she said “it is so important that men should support their pregnant women to go through the labor process. Nine months journey is not easy, even if you are pregnant and your man takes you to antenatal care clinic or delivery room, you feel so good and I know the process to put to birth is also so smooth.”

She, hence, encouraged the men to continue supporting the women in that direction and she believed that the message will sit well with them and support women to go through this process beautifully.

Queen-mother of Anomabo Traditional Area Nana Mbroba Dabo said the program was very educative and has really educated those who were present especially the pregnant women and opinion leaders.

She gave an account of her experience with preeclampsia when she lost her eight-month child. She further pleaded with pregnant women to regularly visit the antenatal care clinic during such a period.

She also advised the pregnant women in the region to visit the Hospital instead of prayer camps.

“Regular visits to the prayer camps without visiting the Hospital can cause child mortality so Ghanaian women should always visit the hospital during pregnancy time for regular check-ups,” she added.
