Hayye Yartey…the Journey into the Limelight

Mr. Yartey attended Datus Complex Junior High School. After completion, he continued his secondary education at Ghana Secondary Technical School in Takoradi (GSTS). Finally, after GSTS, he pursued  his tertiary education at the then Accra Polytechnic  which is now kmown as Accra Technical University.

Yartey eventually became a very good footballer after playing for his former schools; Datus Complex School and Ghana Secondary Technical School.  Not only was Mr. Yartey very good at soccer, he was a seasoned athlete. Undoubtedly,  Yartey had had remarkable records in his formal schools for both athletics and soccer. Yartey combined the two sporting activities .




In the year 1998, his final year at GSTS, he was elected as the sports perfect for GSTS.
He was doing 4×400 meters race, 800 meters, 1500 meters, 5000 meters and cross country for the school. He was selected into the regional team to represent western Region in the inter schools.

After the completion of GSTS, he got an interest of forming a U-12 team so basically he came into football as a building technology student. A student that had nothing but knowledge and passion for the game of football.
Mr. Yartey believes that it is his hard work, putting in the works, always passionately pushing, and by the Grace and favor of the Almighty Allah that he is now where he is.

“There were a lot of young kids in our area who used to be playfootball. I decided to assemble them because of my sports prefect background in GSTS”, he said.

With experience from assembling the school team, athletics team, volleyball team,  he decided to put this young boys together. These boys used to wear his white shirts, singlets and he decided to name the team “THE BOYS”.

U-12 team, called The Boys, with the progress of the team, he decided to get in touch with an Alhaji who was living in their hood called Alhaji Boateng. Alhaji Boateng was into metal works and he supported him financially to help the young chaps to get jerseys, balls, cones and other stuff.

So when Alhaji Boateng decided to support him, he took the advantage of his support and now formed a formidable U-15 and U-17 called Peace Boys. They managed to register in the Greater Accra Colts League and they were playing in the Greater Accra Colts League by the name Peace Boys till a little wrangling came up in terms of ownership among other issues.

Being a school boy he decided to leave Alhaji Boateng for concentration on his studies. During the era of Peace Boys, he also invited one Habib Bonsu and one other Alhaji to also come on board to assist him. There were four of them running Peace before the confusion broke in terms of ownership of the club.

Habib Abdallah Bonsu decided to form his own club after the saga. He called Yartey to bring his expertise on board to run the club. The name of the club was Fauzan FC. Yartey became the team manager of Fauzan FC. Hayye Yartey combined the secretary, administration, welfare works together for Fauzan FC.



Yartey combined medication at Accra Poly and running a football club in Kasoa. The nature of the roads then was nothing to write home about. He had the opportunity to stay in the hostel but he decided not to stay in the hostel but chose to be a day student to be able to help the running of Fauzan FC.

Fauzan FC was division 2 club and rose up to Division 1 after their second year. Fauzan FC produced players such as Habib Mohamed, Mark Adu Amofa, Mark Benson and Bawa Mununi. These players were all products of Fauzan FC.

After the he graduated from Accra Poly he decided to go to London to extend his education and he told Abdallah Bonsu that he had to leave. He decided that they should sell the team. Later, Mr. Herbert Mensah was contacted by Hayye Yartey because he had a relationship with him and he told him they wanted to sell Fauzan FC. The team was finally sold to Mr. Herbert Mensah.

Yartey travelled to London to further his education after the sale of the team. While in London, he was introduced to a scouting course by his colleagues because he always talks about football. He was introduced into a scouting course in Birmingham, London and after the scouting course he came back to Ghana. Incidentally, his junior Brother Ishmael Yartey was  called into the national U-17 by then.

He came back to Ghana in 2006 and Ishmael was called into the national team. He was helping his junior brother and some his friends like Ransford Osei, Daniel Opare and Saddick Adams who was later signed by Atletico Madrid in Spain.

He was just helping them, advising them finding contacts for them. One scouting agency called Ramp Management got in touch with Ishmael while they were at the world cup. They indicated that they wanted to represent him. Ishmael Ordered them to speak to him.

The agency after speaking to Hayye Yartey saw that he had in-depth knowledge about the scouting and football so they decided that they wanted to work with him. They told him to sign three players for them and that was where he signed Ransford Osei, Ishmael Yartey and Daniel Opare onto their Agency. A permanent job was given to him after the signing of the three players as the chief scout for the Agency in west Africa and Ghana.

His first test was to put together a team because they were coming to Ghana CAN 2008 to watch the tournament. They came with some other scouts, notable among them was Paolo Cardoso who was then the Sporting Director of Sporting Lisbon and they were there to look at what he can put together.

He actually scouted from the Milo games. It was divided into two: northern and southern sectors. The northern sector was headed at sunyani and the southern sector was in koforidua.

In all,  he scouted 18 boys and put them together. They played against the then Feyenoord Academy at Feteh where their rank management and their scouts were. They discovered three of his boys namely Alhassan Wakaso, Evans Ofosu Antwi who later was invited into the National U- 17 in 2009; Aaron Amoah who was with Tudu Mighty Jets. He was brought from Mighty Jets.  They invited these from his selected side and then they invited Christian Atsu from Feyenoord to go for trials at Sporting Lisbon in Portugal. Feyenoord refused to grant Atsu the permission to go on trials and that was where Atsu came into the limelight.

Evans and Aaron were invited into National U-17 team by the late Coach Afrane so they also couldn’t honour the invitations.  In the end, the only player that honoured the invitation was Alhassan Wakaso who got an injury and had to come back home for treatment. We prepared him when he came back to go to Porturmese or trials and he later signed for the team.
