A Plus goes to court over $1m Kroll contract

Controversial musician and political activist Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus has sued the government over the controversial Kroll contract.

The Auditor-General has surcharged the Senior Minister Yaw Osafo-Maafo for paying $1million to the foreign firm over what he says is the failure of the company to deliver on the terms of the contract.

Mr. Osafo-Maafo is challenging the action of the Auditor General in court.

A suit filed by A Plus, who has fallen out of love with the ruling party said: “a declaration that the contract between the government of Ghana and Kroll & Associates is an international business or economic transaction under Article 181(5) of the 1992 Constitution that could only have become operative and binding on the government of Ghana after being laid before and approved by Parliament and also a declaration that the conduct of the government of Ghana in paying sums of money amounting to GHS4,869,421.87 million to Kroll & Associates arising out of the said contract, is inconsistent with and in contravention of the letter and the spirit of the 1992 Constitution, particularly Article 181(5) thereof, and is accordingly null, void, and without effect whatsoever”.
