Let’s supply professionals to countries in need – YEA boss

The Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency  ( YEA) Justin Kodua Frimpong has called on Ghana’s envoys abroad to be deliberate about seeking job opportunities for Ghanaian youth in their respective host countries.

According to him, Ghana must be conscious about sending professionals to countries in need in areas that the nation has competitive advantage.

“France is in need of health professionals, the only challenge is we don’t speak French, Australia is in need of and industry and factory hands, and Togo and the rest come here to learn how to speak in English, have we thought off how to send those professionals there?.

“Our ambassadors should be looking into their host countries very well to find out the job opportunities that exist there so we can take advantage of them,” he told Francis Abban on the Morning Starr Monday.

He noted the YEA is putting itself in a position to provide intensive learning programs for potential employees who need specific skills set to practice outside the country.

“What we are trying do is to organize intensive programs for people so that we can quickly put them in readiness to deliver anywhere. Youth unemployment affects all of us and it beholds on all of us to take a definite step to reduce the unemployment menace which is a national security issue”.

Ghana currently has a deal with Barbados which will see the country supply nurses to eastern Caribbean island.

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) was established under the Youth Employment Act 2015 (Act 887) to empower young people to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic and sustainable development of the nation.

Its objective is to support the youth between the ages of 15 to 35 years through skills training and internship modules to transit from a situation of unemployment to that of employment.
