Samira donates ultrasound scanners to Eastern region

The Second Lady Mrs. Samira Bawumia has reiterated her commitment to reducing maternal and Neonatal mortality in the Eastern region and beyond.

She made the commitment when she led the Antenatal Outreach Wing of her foundation – Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Projects (SEHP), a not-for-profit organisation, to visit the Eastern Regional Hospital where she donated two Ultra Scan machines to the facility.

She also interacted with pregnant and nursing mothers, and assessed challenges at the wards.

Eastern Region is one of the regions in Ghana with high mortality rate. In 2017, for instance, a total of 109 maternal deaths were recorded in the region meaning at least nine pregnant women died every month in the region.

Mrs. Bawumia was impressed with what she observed at the Antenatal and Post Delivery wards however she was not too impressed with the condition of the mother’s hostel.

Dr. Okoe Boye, a Legislator and a Member of Parliamentary Select Committee on Health also in Charge of the Antenatal Outreach programs of SEHP foundation, announced that Parliament is working on a facility to construct ultramodern Hospital for Eastern Region to help improve the delivery of quality Healthcare in the region.
