Minority rejects Bono Regional Minister Nominee again

The Minority in Parliament has once again rejected President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s Bono regional Minister Nominee Evelyn Kumi-Richardson.

The NDC MPs argue that the nominee is not fit for the office, given a number of controversies she’s embroiled in.

Speaking on the floor ahead of her approval, North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, accused Ms Richardson of perjury when she appeared before the appointments committee.

She’s also accused of defying a directive of the Chief of Staff not to travel out of the country and spent $54,000 of state funds on a private trip to Canada.

Ms Richardson’s appointment was first disapproved by the committee over certain audit queries relating to a land acquisition case in March 2019.

She was the only nominee out 19 nominees who was not approved by the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

But the deputy Local Government Minister and a member of the appointments committee O. B. Amoah argued the allegations against the nominee are baseless.
