Creative-thinking curricular coming – Adutwum

Dr. Yaw Adutwum, deputy education minister has hinted that a new curricular which will encourage children to think creatively is in the offing.

He said the idea is to engender confidence and open minded among children as they grow into adulthood.

“That kind of curricula is coming, it will make our kids creative thinkers. One that will teach kids to explore and think of reasons behind things instead of the basic facts that they can google to check. It is also to make the kids unconsciously learn the history of this country and the values we want to impact to them, the history of great personalities like Kofi Annan and others. That’s how America did it. By the time you go into high school you would have learnt the history of America and Washington and all the rest,” he told Bola Ray on Starr Chat Wednesday.

Commenting on the Free SHS Program and the corresponding double track system, Dr. Adutwum who established a school in California – USA, said: ” Nobody expected double track, we didn’t go into free SHS anticipating double track. So when we were hit with the numbers when the program was rolled out, we thought of what to do.

“So my minister went to the President and he gave us power to find a way out. And that’s why I like my minister; he is an open minded guy. He is the out of the box kind of guy. He is not the guy who will say this has not been tried before. Always open to new ideas so we sat down and he allowed me to bring my experience from California when they had such a challenge when they changed their education,” he said.

He further stressed that the double track system is the best way to handled the numbers under the free SHS in the short to medium term as government constructs new structures to phase it out.
