E/R: Teachers at Nana Kwaku Boateng ‘B’ primary transferred en bloc

The New Juaben Municipal Directorate of Ghana Education Service has transferred en bloc the Headteacher and all Teachers of Nana Kwaku Boateng “B” Basic School in the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern Region over internal wranglings .

The New Juaben Municipal Director of Education, Bartholomew Kwame Ofori told Starr News the mass transfers were based on a report by a fact-finding committees sanctioned to investigate a standoff between teachers and their Headteacher as well as poor performance of pupils.

All eighteen (18) affected teachers received their transfer letters Wednesday January 30,2019 with effect from February 1,2019.

The decision to set up committees to investigate happenings in the Schools follows many complaints and petitions by Parents and the New Juaben Traditional Council over gross disrespect and intimidation of Teachers by the Headteacher, Rose Addo, which led to a total breakdown of discipline and Cordiality between the Headmistress and her teaching staff which has affected performance of pupils.

Late last year, Starr News reported on a brawl between the Headteacher, Rose Addo and another colleague over a KG Classroom .

The Headteacher is reported to be boastful of being a staunch Member of the ruling New Patriotic Party and therefore had the backing of the Regional Minister Eric Kwakye Darfuor hence could neither be sanctioned nor transferred.

Reports by two Separate Committees commissioned by GES for fact finding in the School this year corroborated and confirmed a feud between most of the teachers and the headteacher whom they accused of having the penchant of disrespecting and insulting them in the presence of their pupils, a situation they say kills morale of teachers hence were not committed to effective teaching of pupils.

One of the committees report accused the Headteacher of selling text books to the pupils .

“The committee realized that the Headteacher and a Teacher sold books to the pupils during the previous terms. Headteacher sold books to the kindergarten pupils while Madam Phyllis Sarpomaa sold Integrated Science and Ghanaian Language books respectively to pupils without recommendation of the headteacher”.

Also the committee noted illegal collection of extra classes fees for KG Pupils. Also, the headteacher coerce pupils for offertory during worship, cited misappropriation of PTA funds and Extra classes fees which it has recommended for auditing.

“extra Classes for kindergarten should be abolished, mode of Worship and offertory should be looked at seriously, collection of Levies and (PTA,Project and Extra Classes) should be structured, PTA should be asked to Render Account of an amount of GHC5 per child for the past two years being collected in the name of Municipal Education Office towards Sports and Culture, and also render an account of GHC9 per child for the past two years being collected towards the construction of a KVIP for KG pupils”.
