Mahama takes campaign to Eastern region

Former President John Dramani Mahama will today begin a five-day flagbearership campaign tour of the Eastern region.

Mr Mahama will tour every constituency in the region to greet and interact with delegates, ahead of the flagbearership election of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) later this month.

Already, the former president’s campaign has taken him to every constituency in the Central, Upper West, Upper East and Northern Regions. Also, Mr Mahama has visited all constituencies in the Greater Accra, Brong Ahafo, Ashanti and Western Regions to seek the mandate of delegates to lead the NDC to victory in the 2020 general elections.

Former President Mahama has been speaking to delegates about his plans to develop the NDC into a modern and vibrant political party, his commitment to improve the implementation of the chaotic Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy and his resolve to eliminate the double track system in secondary education by investing in additional classroom blocks and dormitories as well as the completion of the remainder of the 200 Community Day Senior High Schools started by the NDC administration and abandoned by the current regime.

He says secondary education is a once in a life time experience for students and he wants to ensure that all SHS students are in school at the same time so that they can have adequate contact hours with their teachers to enable them excel in their final examinations.

The plight of cocoa farmers, including the government’s decision to sell fertilizer marked “not for sale” and abandoned cocoa roads, artisanal mining and the present economic hardship, among others, have all been major talking points for Mr Mahama on the campaign trail.

The former president has also been promising to work hard to provide jobs and reduce the high cost of living in the country when elected in the 2020 presidential election.
