Man Utd news: Sir Alex Ferguson thought THIS about Jose Mourinho before sacking

MANCHESTER UNITED icon Sir Alex Ferguson had reservations about Jose Mourinho long before his sacking, reports say.

Manchester United icon Ferguson witnessed Mourinho’s final match as manager of the Red Devils on Sunday in their 3-1 Premier League defeat to Liverpool.

Since then, the club have turned to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as they try to lift the doom and gloom mood around Old Trafford.

Manchester United appointed Jose Mourinho in 2016, choosing to do a deal with the devil rather than stick by Louis van Gaal, who was axed just 24 hours after steering the club to FA Cup glory.

Mourinho guided United to EFL Cup and Europa League triumphs in his first season at the helm.

And, in his second season, he guided them to a second-placed finish in the league as well as reaching the FA Cup final.

That, however, was as good as it got for the 55-year-old.

And the Independent say Ferguson always had misgivings about whether Mourinho was the right man for the job.

In 2013, the Scot was asked who should replace him as manager.

And, despite Mourinho’s time at Real Madrid winding down, the 76-year-old chose to give it to David Moyes instead.

That was a decision that reportedly left Mourinho in tears.

But, when the club axed Van Gaal, they had no other choice but to get him in.

The Independent also said Ferguson was critical of Mourinho after the club’s Champions League exit to Sevilla in February.

He supposedly said ‘something had to change’ just moments after a shock 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford.

Mourinho is now a thing of United’s past.

But he could be back in management sooner, rather than later, with Europe’s elite being linked.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez would relish the chance to bring him back to the Bernabeu.

And Inter Milan would also welcome him back to the San Siro with open arms.
