I will never see Rawlings as a hero – Ken Agyapong

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has refused to see former President Jerry John Rawlings as a hero.

Mr Agyapong who was commenting on the Joy News documentary, “Who killed the judges?” said as someone who has witnessed a countless number of excesses under Rawlings’ PNDC, it would be difficult for him see him as a hero.

He said all the socio-economic problems Ghana is encountering today can be traced to the bad foundation Mr Rawlings’ laid during his 19-year rule.

“His ideologies were full of hatred and envy. Our wounds are still not healed; he did so many wicked things. I will never Rawlings as a hero. I don’t care about those who see him as a hero,” he said.

Mr Kennedy Agyapong was commenting on Ex-president John Rawlings’ claims that he sees recent documentary by Joy News on the account of the murder of some three High Court Judges and a retired army officer during his regime as an attack on him.

Preaching his innocence at a forum in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, the ex-president said if he was bloodthirsty, the best opportunity to have silenced his critics was in 1979 when the people shouted let the blood flow.

But the MP who sees nothing wrong with the documentary said on Adom TV’s morning show, Badwam that a lot of pain was caused during Mr Rawlings’ regime.

To him, former president Rawlings moved Ghana backwards during their tenure in office.

He also claimed that the Rawlings era killed entrepreneurial skills in Ghanaians.

But the former Central Regional chairman of the NDC, Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has, in a rebuttal, hit back at those criticising the former president.

He said though he is not in support of the atrocities that happened some years back, he believes it’s now history and should be put behind.
