David De Gea: Man Utd board unhappy with one thing Spain international does at the club

DAVID DE GEA’s Manchester United future is currently uncertain – and club chiefs are reportedly unhappy with one thing the Spain international does at Old Trafford.
David De Gea remains a consistent performer for Manchester United and recently scooped the club’s player of the year award for a fourth time in five years.

Despite that, however, his Old Trafford future is currently shrouded in uncertainty.

Manchester United are eager to tie him down to a new contract, particularly in a climate where top shot-stoppers are hard to come by.

De Gea, though, wants assurances. Having seen a move to Real Madrid fall through in 2015 – and then watch Los Blancos dominate domestic and European football – he wants to know United are in a position to match his own ambitions.
At the moment, they simply are not.

United sit seven points behind Liverpool and Manchester City at the Premier League summit. In reality, that number could be significantly greater.

De Gea is popular at United and especially close to Ander Herrera and Juan Mata.

But Old Trafford chiefs do have one issue with the Spain international.

ESPN claim they feel frustrated that he refuses to do media duties, unlike many of his team-mates.

Yet that may be his way of dodging questions about his future.
De Gea, being one of the best goalkeepers in world football and Manchester United’s undisputed star, is always the subject of transfer talk.

And he understandably keeps his guard up.

De Gea may also be mindful of the media due to what he perceives to be poor treatment of him – particularly in his homeland.

The Spain international has never quite forgiven his country’s press from condemning him over claims he stole a doughnut from Tesco in 2011.

And with his pop star girlfriend, Edurne, regularly making headlines, he understandably considers that in his decision-making.
Meanwhile, the United star was mocked by England hero Terry Butcher after England scored three first-half goals against Spain last night.

“What a treat. It is raining goals,” he said on BBC 5Live.

“I don’t think David de Gea has had a save to make but he’s picked it out of the net three times.

“You talk about England being ruthless but this is sensational stuff.

“We thought coming here tonight that they might get drubbed by three or more.”

Raheem Sterling scored twice either side of a goal from Marcus Rashford as England sent shockwaves reverberating around the footballing world.
