Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho responds to Zinedine Zidane phone call claims

JOSE MOURINHO refused to deny being called by Zinedine Zidane over the weekend.
Mourinho was asked about the reports claiming the former Real Madrid boss had been in touch to discuss the job following the defeat to West Ham.

And the Manchester United boss laughed at the suggestions but refused to deny they had spoken.

Zidane is the hot favourite to take over form Mourinho as things turn sour at Manchester United.

The Sun claimed Zidane had called Mourinho to tell him he wasn’t angling for his job.
But it was also claimed the call had convinced Mourinho he was set for the chop.

United are languishing in 10th after seven games with three defeats and a draw making it their worst start to a season since 1989.

When asked if he thought his job was on the line today he said: “No. I don’t think.”

And when asked when he last spoke to Ed Woodward he said: “That is a private matter, I am not asking you. It is a private matter, I am not going to answer to you.”
Mourinho also claimed some of his players care more than others after questioning their mentality at the weekend following the defeat to West Ham.

He said: “I think that some care more than others. (Will you say who?) No.”

United face Valencia in the Champions League on Tuesday after losing to West Ham and Derby and a draw with Derby.

After that they face Newcastle ahead of the international break.

United midfielder Nemanja Matic insists the players are giving their all.
“We played badly on Saturday but I don’t believe any player doesn’t give his best,” he said.

“I believe I played one of my worst games but I look in the mirror and ask what I did wrong and everybody does the same.”

“When you play for United everyone expects you to win.

“When you don’t win a few games in a row there’s more tension on you.

“We will try to do everything to make the fans happy.”
