Buduburam: No proof of 'lynched' soldier – GAF

There is no evidence that a soldier has been lynched by some irate residents of Gomoa Buduburam in the Central Region, as has been reported by the media, Col. Eric Aggrey Quarshie, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), has said.

The report said the alleged unidentified soldier was lynched Wednesday evening at a popular spot called ‘Big Apple’ in Budumburam, and since then, there have been military patrols in the area.

It claimed the residents were living in fear as there have been consistent military patrols in the area ever since the alleged lynching.

But speaking to ClassFMonline.com, Col. Aggrey Quarshie said the Ghana Armed Forces, upon hearing the news, investigated it but found no proof of any such incident.

“There is no confirmation, not even from the police and for now we’re all looking for enough information to confirm if any such incident took place and if the people were military personnel,” he stated.

Last year, a military officer, Major Maxwell Mahama, was lynched by residents of Denkyira Obuasi, now New Obuasi, when an angry mob mistook him for an armed robber.

The incident sparked public outrage and nationwide condemnation.
