Man Utd transfer news: Mourinho set for cash boost over AC Milan deal

MANCHESTER UNITED manager Jose Mourinho could see his transfer budget boosted by Memphis Depay’s move from Lyon to AC Milan.
Manchester United sold Depay to Lyon in January 2017, insisting they insert a buy-back option and sell-on clause in the terms of the transfer.

Depay, now 24, struggled to impress during his time at Old Trafford but has excelled in France.

The winger was a key member of Lyon’s squad last season, scoring 22 goals in 47 games.

And he is now attracting interest from Serie A giants AC Milan – and that is good news for United.
According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Milan will have to pay around £35m to land Netherlands international Depay this summer.

Were they to make a bid, Lyon would be obliged to contact United and offer them first refusal on a deal.

There have been reports that Jose Mourinho would be open to re-signing Depay, who initially cost them £26.3, when arriving from PSV back in 2015.

Should Manchester United pass on the buy-back option, they would still be due a percentage of the eventual fee Milan pay for the player.

Sell-on clauses vary but are usually between 10 per cent and 20 per cent of the transfer fee.

United could then expect up to around £7m from Depay’s transfer to Italy.

The Red Devils are already working hard on their own deals this summer and are expected to announce the £52m arrival of Brazil midfielder Fred this week.

Mourinho has also been linked with a number of targets, including Marco Verratti and Gareth Bale.
